FAQ
What is my trailer worth?
This is a common question and of course there is no easy answer. There are a number of things that will affect the price – how quick you need to sell, trailer condition, age, scarcity and your location are the main factors.
As a starting point have a look at the manufacturers website to see what the current prices are. We would suggest reducing it anywhere from 5% to 40% from the new price depending on the above factors.
Does a trailer need an MOT?
No, there is currently no requirement in UK law for a trailer to have an MOT. Some European countries may require the equivalent of an MOT if the trailer is to be permanently registered there.
It is however the responsibility of the owner and/or user to ensure that the trailer is in a safe, and roadworthy condition when used on the road. So if you are buying a trailer and towing it home then please make sure that the trailer you are towing is safe!
What about insurance?
For potential buyers it makes sense to think about getting covered, even though insuring a trailer isn’t mandatory.
You can check if your current car insurance policy covers you. … For example, lots of car insurers include third-party cover for trailers for free or a small fee. If not, then there are a number of insurers out there who specialise in trailer insurance such as IPG (Insurance Protector Group) and the NFU (National Farmers Union).
The insurance company will usually want to know the make, model, and description of the trailer such as box trailer, flatbed etc and is it braked/unbraked and gross weight. They will usually also ask for the VIN/Chassis number of the trailer before offering the policy, so please make sure that you can get this information from the seller before you try and get cover sorted as it will save you some wasted phone calls!
How do I mark my advert as sold?
If you hover over the first photo in your advert there is a little star to click that says ‘mark as sold’. Please do this asap after a sale is completed as it saves you from being contacted unnecessarily and also prevents potential buyers from getting frustrated.
How do I Edit my advert?
If you go into the ‘My Adverts’ section and hover over the first photo you will see a small pen/pencil ✎ icon. Click on that icon and it will take you to the editing screen.
How do I delete an advert?
If you go into the ‘My Adverts’ section and hover over the first photo you will see a small eye 👁 icon. Click on that icon and it will remove your advert from public view. Once this has been done a small trash can / dustbin 🗑 icon will be available on the photo. Click on the dustbin icon and you will be given the option of deleting the listing.
My photo is loading upside down or sideways on! How do I rotate my photos?
Most phones, tablets and laptops/desktops have the facility to rotate photos. If your listing photo loads as a sideways or upside down image please delete the image from your listing. You can then rotate the photo on your computer or mobile device by using the ‘edit’ function. Once this is done you can reload the photo.
I need to speak to someone at TrailerMart. How can I contact you?
Please remember that if you are making an enquiry about a trailer for sale, this should be done through the advertiser rather than us. We do not handle any part of the sales transaction, this is between yourself and the seller.
If you do need to get in contact with us then please click on the ‘Contact’ link in the footer on the bottom of the page. You can use our email, contact form or phone to get in touch. We can’t always answer straight away but we will get back to you asap.
